Chrysalis

DSC07237

A chrysalis
That’s all there is,
No – not the caterpillar before
Or, the butterfly after-

Just as I breathe, nourish and age
Leave footprints
I become a little purer

And I write
And I know I will strike off and rewrite
If I have to,
Change is the only constant thing.

Sad, obscure, dark – isn’t a corner rack for poetry
Illustrious life
It’ll be a shame not to write about it.

Who am I mourning for?
I am mourning for the world,
Who I am rejoicing with?
I am rejoicing with the world.

Truth, peace, harmony, love
I must be the change I wish to see in the world.

Tonight on Dversepoets Gay has us write about manifesto.
1) why you write
2) what threatens your passion (ultimately, your writing life)
3) why you will continue to write against all odds
It took me some time to compose this. Join here to read some wonderful poetry. The photo was taken sometime back in Kolkata.

  1. amen brother…that is the change i wish to see as well…and change is def constant…and as we write we have to be willing to change…to grow…love the mourning and rejoicing with the world…cool manifesto abhra

  2. Indeed – all we can be is who we are, all we can show is our own truth, and the only change we can truly make is in ourselves – but that is enough to show that each of us can, and set the mode or model so that others may do the same. Bravo!

  3. Change is the only constant…and you hit the nail on the head with your thought of BEING the change you want to see in the world. Wonderful manifesto!!

  4. yes – we have to be the change we want to see – mourning for and rejoicing with the world… and being close enough to her pulse to write it all down…i like

  5. I love the thought that one must be the change they want to see in the world. Puts the responsibility right on us. Strong message here, Abhra!

  6. I can relate to the idea that our poetry is part of the footprints we will eventually leave behind. I also like the idea of the power of words, even if often times we do not see the effects of our words.

  7. A very strong poem with lot of valuable lessons for life. Be the change that you want to be…..apt and put in a very nice way. I would recommend this poem in the school books as it has a lot of sense and depth to it than some of the non sense that they study these days.

  8. Indeed truth, peace, harmony, love is what our world needs. A very nice composition, your words and the photograph too. 🙂
I have been following your photography on Facebook too. 🙂

I would like to know what you think about this :
